The Swedish National Committee for Psychological Sciences is one of the scientific committees appointed by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and associated with the International Council for Science.

The aim of the Swedish National Committee for Psychological Sciences is to promote research, training, and development within psychology, and to represent Sweden in the International Union for Psychological Science (IUPsyS), an international association for the science of psychology. The Committee acts to promote cooperation with related fields of science. It offers consultative services for universities and other institutions for research and professional training. It also acts as an advisory body of experts to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

The Committee initiates activities that promote academic development in psychology, such as:
  • defining the sub-disciplines of psychology,
  • monitoring and promoting the quality of training in psychology at universities,
  • recording and analysing doctoral dissertations in psychology at universities,
  • monitoring and raising qualification criteria for professorships at universities,
  • recording and analysing financial support to research in psychology,
  • acting as spokesman on psychological issues in public debate.

The Committee consists of 15 members from different sub-disciplines of psychology. The Swedish National Committee for Psychological Sciences has instituted an annual award to an outstanding young researcher in psychology. The award was presented for the first time in 2003.
